urban design

Urban designers and planners are concerned with the functional and visual relationships between components of the physical environment in the broadest sense. Among other things, their work results in unified plans and proposals for transportation systems, industrial parks, subdivisions, downtown renewal projects and shopping malls. They formulate plans and policies to meet the social, economic and physical needs of communities, and they develop the strategies to make these plans work. This involves identifying urban problems and opportunities, analyzing and implementing options and evaluating results.
